Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot is moving along, and getting ready for its March 6, 2015 release date. Though no official casting has been announced for the Josh Trank film, the project just picked up a big name. Matthew Vaughn is now attached as a producer.
This comes from Deadline, and what’s interesting about this is that Vaughn hasn’t found a follow up yet to his X-Men: First Class. Though he’s a producer on Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall and has a producer’s credit on X-Men: Days of Future Past, he hasn’t lined up his next big gig. He supposedly gave up on Future Past because of the time crunch as the film will be going into production shortly, which allowed Bryan Singer to re-pick up the franchise. And word was for a hot minute that he was in serious contention to direct the new Star Wars movie, but he obviously didn’t get that project as J.J. Abrams is now helming the seventh episode.
Vaughn has spent the last couple years embroiled in the comic book world as he was originally attached to Thor – though none of his work was used – and also directed the first Kick-Ass movie and First Class. What his role will be on this one, if he’s finishing out a Fox contract, or if he’ll be hands on is unknown. Vaughn started his career by producing the films of Guy Richie, so he obviously knows talent when he sees it.
Does Vaughn getting added to the mix make Fantastic Four sound more interesting to you?
