As we noted when we got our hands on the first official trailer for Trance, the film appears to be Danny Boyle’s typically hyper-stylized take on Inception, as the film centers on a heist and the subconscious.  And now we have the semi-not safe for work red-band trailer, in which people sleep with hypnotists, get their fingers cut off, and have the tops of their heads blown off.

The trailer is pure Boyle, with fast cutting, a super-stylized color palette, and frenetic pacing.   The story focuses on Simon (James McAvoy), who works as a fine art auctioneer who leads a gang to steal a prized Goya painting for millions of dollars.  But then Simon develops amnesia after getting hit in the head (because everyone in movies gets amnesia when hit in the head), and Vincent Cassel, the gangs leader, hires a hypnotherapist (Rosario Dawson), to journey into Simon’s subconscious, causing the reality and dreams to blur.  Watch it:

Still not sure if this film will totally work on its own, but hey—any movie that features a semi-headless Vincent Cassel berating James McAvoy is probably worth the price of admission alone.

Trance is set for release on April 5th.
