Taking its cues from Wall-E (a lonely sentinel of the future is tasked with clean-up and repair duties on an abandoned and uninhabited Earth, and he eventually meets another person who changes the course of his life) and The Matrix (in a futuristic dystopia, an underground army led by a super-serious guy in black clothes and rounded sunglasses will attempt to help the hero of the story discern the difference between his perceived reality and the true memories of reality that he can’t recall, all while battling a bunch of machines), the newest trailer for Oblivion seems a bit of a sci-fi hodgepodge, all tied together by Tom Cruise in his ‘spiky-haired running and yelling at things’ mode of intensity and some solid CGI effects work and Inception-y soundtrack riff (which are now required to be featured in 92% of all film trailers).  Check it out.

So in Oblivion, Earth has been abandoned by humanity after some kind of catastrophic attack, and Cruise plays a veteran who now works as a repairman fixing what is left of the machinery on Earth.  Then he finds a bunch of bodies encased in vats, and then Morgan Freeman shows up and drops some Morpheus on him.  Trailer:

Directed by Joseph Kosinki (Tron: Legacy), Oblivion is set for an April 19, 2013 release.
