Pixar is putting out animated films once a year, and so 2013′s big animated movie for the studio is Monsters University, their prequel to Monsters, Inc. The film shows how James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) and Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) came to work together and be friends, but it looks like their relationship didn’t start out that well. Check out the trailer…

Though it isn’t as apparent in this trailer, the plot of the movie has been revealed and in the film Mike and Sully are kicked out of Scare School, only to team up with other scare rejects in hopes of winning the big scareathalon, or whatever they call it. And yeah, it does sound a bit like Revenge of the Nerds. But that’s okay, we like Revenge of the Nerds. Here’s that trailer:

Though we thought Brave was okay, if not pretty good, the last couple years have shown that Pixar are not infallible, and even worse, aren’t above making a cash-grab sequel like Cars 2. And though it’s not terrible, Toy Story 3 was a bit wobbly in execution (it gets better as it goes). None of these films are out and out disasters, but there was a time when Pixar had a perfect record. Monsters University is another sequel, and we’re hoping it delivers, but – as we’ve seen them do it before – when it comes to Pixar sequels, we can only be cautiously optimistic. Monsters U opens June 12.
