Selecting a film’s title can be tough—you’ve got to be clever, snappy, and think of something at least somewhat related to the film. Or you could be more esoteric and vague if you’d like to appear a bit more artsy. Now we’ll leave you to guess which of those options was selected by the people behind the film Big Ass Spider! which, as you may or may not have already guessed, indeed features a big ass spider.
Directed by Mike Mendez, Big Ass Spider! was selected to be one of the Midnight features for March’s SXSW Film Festival, according to /Film. Now, how to describe the film? Well, it features a big ass spider, one which goes on a rampages, trashes a city, gets hunted by some inept exterminators, kills a bunch of people, and looked like it was animated with circa 1993 CGI. Along the way, Mendez packs in “gags based on memes, video games, monster movies, and just about anything else you can think of.” Oh, and again, in case it wasn’t clear, there is a big ass spider in this thing. While the trailer has some smirk-worthy moments, there’s something a little Snakes on a Plane-y here, like the film is trying a little too hard to wink at the audience. Oh well, I suppose we’ll find out in March when the film premieres at SXSW.
What do you think of the trailer?
