Director Gareth Edwards’ (Monsters) Godzilla remake/reboot is set to begin production in March of this year, meaning the mostly-uncasted film still needs to grab several names to fill out its roster. While the lead role seems to be a lock (it was reportedly turned down by Joseph Gordon-Levitt before Aaron Taylor-Johnson took over), it now appears as if Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen are set to join Taylor-Johnson as members of the Godzilla cast.
Details, however, are still catchy, as /Film notes. Rumor has it that Taylor-Johnson will play “a solider fighting not just Godzilla but two other mothers as well,” but there is no word on who Olsen and Cranston are set to portray. Further, it’s not as if a deal can be done yet anyway—not until Frank Darabont completes his rewritten draft of the script.
Regardless of what happens, it seems like Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are fast-tracking Godzilla despite the lack of a full cast or script—as noted above, filming is set to begin in a month, and Godzilla is on track to premiere on May 16, 2014, come hell or high water or giant, skyscraper-tall lizards that can breathe fire and occasionally fight gargantuan moths and robots.
