After some middling entries, it was a pleasant surprise that Fast Five was one of the most entertaining summer movies in forever. In its way it was a minor miracle. It had a director who hadn’t done anything that good before, and assembled all the players from the other film in a way that made it feel like a real team was brought together. Can they top themselves? That’s what Fast and Furious 6 asks, and they might have if we’re going by this new trailer.

Though we got a taste of this in the Super Bowl spot, the full trailer lays out a plot. Dwayne Johnson‘s character recruits Vin Diesel‘s Dominic Toretto  and team to track down a bad guy who’s working with Dom’s supposedly dead girlfriend (Michelle Rodriguez). Car-related mayhem ensues. Here’s that trailer:

Okay, so you’ve got hand-to-hand combat, cars versus tanks and cars versus planes, and a team of cool criminals brought together to take down a bigger criminal. What more do you need from a summer movie? If the film has a weak spot, it’d be that the villain – played by Luke Evans – doesn’t look that formidable, but last time the bad guy was played by Joaquim de Almeida, and we haven’t even seen who Joe Taslim (from The Raid: Redemption) plays or what many of the returning cast are up to. But that’s not what makes a trailer, what makes a trailer is driving a car through a plane. And we got that here. Fast and Furious 6 opens May 24, and you better believe we’ll be there.

What’s your ranking of the Fast and Furious films?
