We have no idea what to expect from Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers, but it looks – if nothing else – pretty memorable. The film has four young girls (Ashley Benson, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine) who decide to enter into a life of crime to pay for their spring break, only to get sucked in deeper by a cracker crime lord (James Franco). How do you not watch that? Here’s the latest NSFW trailer.

This all comes from indie Auteur Harmony Korine, who first came on the scene with his script for Kids in 1995. That was a big controversial movie that some thought raw and honest and others felt was nothing more than exploitation. That’s been the line Korine has been walking for nearly twenty years, as follow ups like Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy and Trash Humpers are usually either hailed as masterpieces or exploitative trash. Here’s the trailer:

The film screened at Venice and Toronto’s film festivals to – no surprise – mixed responses, but this looks to be his most popular film in decades, if only because it features nudity and leading ladies Gomez and Hudgens, who are looking to distance themselves from their child star backgrounds. And for James Franco’s performance as an over the top wannabe. And to be fair, this is one of the most infamous indie films in quite some time, simply because of the content. The questions are: is it good, and will people wait for home video? We’ll know when Spring Breakers hits theaters March 22.
