It’s been a long, hard road for Knights of Badassdom so far—the film, directed by Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End) was, as noted by Cinema Blend, filmed in 2010, given a trailer in time for the 2011 Comic-Con, and it’s website still heralds a 2012 release date. And yet, the film has yet to see an actual release. But now the oddball horror-comedy has a new trailer, along with a nonspecific “Coming Soon” tag, to let you know that its apparent Shaun of the Dead-esque take on fantasy role playing games might actually see a 2013 release date.
The story concerns a group of LARPS (that’s Live Action Role Players, to you) who have come together for a LARPy fan convention in which they can revel in their goofy LARPitry together (sorry, I just like saying LARP). However, things get weird when the nerds accidentally summon a succubus straight from Hell, turning their costumed role-playing into a real-life battle of life and death. Check out the trailer:
The film seems to be directly appealing to cult audiences with its cast, which includes Steve Zahn, Firefly’s Summer Glau, Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, Community’s Danny Pudi, and Ryan Kwanten of True Blood. And while the trailer only looks so-so, the perfect storm of cult actors and the apparent Sam Raimi meets Edgar Wright stylings of the film may make Knights of Badassdom a cult hit, if it ever sees the light of day.
What do you think of the trailer?
