Like any good cinephile, we treat the release of a new Coen brothers movie as an event. Their latest, Inside Llewyn Davis, is the first in twenty years not to be shot by Roger Deakins, and tells the story of a New York folk singer in the 60′s. After their recent run of movies (No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man, True Grit), we can’t wait to see what they do next.
This one stars Oscar Isaac, who plays the titular Davis, and the trailer doesn’t tell us much about the plot, except that he’s a struggling musician and it’s the first film since O Brother Where Art Thou to reunite the Coens with the always dependable John Goodman. There’s also a number of famous faces, with Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake and Garrett Hedlund also making appearances. Here’s that trailer:
The trailer is odd in that there’s no studio attached, and we have no sense when the film will be released, though it is finished. Could it get a Cannes launch? Seems likely if it’s finished. This is also Oscar Isaac’s big break. He’s been in a number of films recently, mostly in smaller roles, and this looks to be his breakthrough role. We’ll keep you posted when the film is scheduled for release and all that.
