Because when you think of a film about an interstellar police force within the Marvel Studios universe that features some aliens, a plant monster, and a sentient, gun-wielding raccoon, you think, “Jeez, what this needs is more of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler’s inimitable brand of humor,” both comic actors are now under consideration to star in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film (a.k.a., the really, really weird alt-Avengers).
The news comes from Latino Review (via /Film), which notes that while neither actor has the youth or specific look needed to play the lead character, Peter Quill/Star Lord, they may be up the voices of what will likely be CGI characters such as Rocket Raccoon or Groot, the alien plant monster.
/Film notes that the news is currently unclear as to whether the actors are up for different roles, or are indeed vying to play the same character. Nothing much is known beyond the fact that Marvel is currently courting the actors.
Guardians of the Galaxy will tell the story of the titular story, who are formed by Peter Quill/Star Lord to act as a kind of interstellar Avengers to protect the Galaxy. Quill then recruits Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon to help him with this task. It’s weird.
