The trailer for Olympus Has Fallen is the latest in the long line of “Die Hard in a (insert location here)” films (other include Speed, Air Force One, all of the unnecessary Die Hard sequels, and this year’s White House Down, which looks identical to Olympus), featuring a down and out protagonist stuck within in a single location, forced to fight a bevy of terrorists all while carving a path of personal redemption. It’s a film we’ve all seen before, but hey, this time it’s in the White House, so whatever, just watch the trailer and let’s get this over with.
Olympus Has Fallen stars Gerard Butler (of course) as a Secret Service agent whose reputation and faith in himself are tarnished (of course) after he lets the First Lady die while attempting to save the President. He then happens to find himself in the White House during a hostile terrorist takeover (of course) and is the only man with the training (of course) capable of bringing down the bad guys, essentially making himself a one man army (of course). Meanwhile, outside of the White House, the man charged with bringing calm to the situation is Morgan Freeman (of course), and a cabinet of officials who are unsure if Butler can get the job done (of course); while the President muses that “we do not negotiate with terrorists” (of course) while Butler states that “I’m the only hope you’ve got” (of course). Watch:
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and co-starring Aaron Eckhart as the President of the United States, Olympus Has Fallen opens on March 22. You could see it then, or you could just stay home and watch Die Hard. Either way.
