While the Sundance Film Festival is an opportunity to see a massive collection of new films, it’s also a wellspring of news about upcoming films in 2013, as several filmmakers are being asked about new projects.  One such filmmaker?  Robert Rodriguez, who dished about some big casting news for his upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Coming on the heels of the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was cast as the film’s lead, and then that Christopher Meloni and Josh Brolin had signed on, and then that Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, and Juno Temple had joined the cast, director Robert Rodriguez (during an interview at an anniversary screening of El Mariachi at Sundance) has confirmed that Bruce Willis, one of the stars of the original film, will be returning for the sequel:

“Bruce is back, so he will be seen.”

That’s an interest way in which to phrase “Bruce Willis is returning to star in the sequel,” so perhaps Willis is only returning for some kind of cameo or flashback (spoiler: he dies in the first film).  Or perhaps Rodriguez was just being coy for the sake of being coy.  Either way, Willis will now be joining original film stars Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, and Jaime King to return to the franchise.

What do you think of the Sin City news?
