At this point, the release of Paul Schrader‘s The Canyons can in no way live up to the hype as either a good movie or one of the worst movies ever made. That’s what’s expected, and considering how many people hate-watched Lindsay Lohan in Liz And Dick, it’s likely the film will make its money back and yet be worthless for everyone’s career. But it may not be the worst thing in the world, at least going by this clip.

If you’re not up to speed, The Canyons was a kickstarter-funded film written by Bret Easton Ellis (Less than Zero, American Psycho), directed by Paul Schrader (writer of Taxi Driver, director of American Gigolo), and starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. With Lohan’s career in a tailspin, this looked like another branch for Lohan to hit before rock bottom, whatever rock bottom might be (full-on pornography or death, we’d guess). Here’s that clip:

And it looks functional. Deen does provide the menace required, and this isn’t Ed Wood/Tommy Wiseau-level bad. We don’t know what exactly to expect after reading the brilliant New York Times behind the scenes portrait the film, which suggests that the production faced numbers of problems that were partly created by Lohan herself. The NYT piece is a must read, and at this point we’re more interesting in a movie about the making of the film, which could be more interesting than the finished product. The Canyons still doesn’t have a release date, but we’re guessing it will show up on VOD sooner or later.

Can Lohan bounce back ever?
