When he’s not too busy being rumored to star as Batman in the Justice League, or as the star of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy project, Joseph Gordon-Levitt actually gets officially cast in things.  Case in point: Dimension Films has announced that the actor will star in the extremely anticipated Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The film is the long-awaited sequel (we’re talking eight years here, folks) to Frank Miller’s Sin City, co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

Gordon-Levitt joins a star-woven cast features returning stars Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, and Jaime King, as well as newbies in the form of Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung (who previously starred with Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush).

The actor has been cast as Johnny, a new character in the Sin City universe, a man who is “a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game.”  Said Gordon-Levitt:

“I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality.  Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.”

The film will reportedly blend together two preexisting tales from Miller’s Sin City graphic novels along with new stories featuring new characters, such as Johnny.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is set for an October 4, 2013 release.
