A little less than a year ago, Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh first worked together with Haywire. Since then Tatum starred in The Vow and 21 Jump Street, and then the two teamed up together again for Magic Mike, which was one of the surprise hits of the summer. Now they’ve got Side Effects, and a new trailer.
Here the duo are joined by Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones in this mystery thriller about a woman (Mara) who goes on meds only for the police to arrest her therapist (Law) when something goes wrong. Though 2012 was the year of Tatum, 2011 could have been called the year of Rooney Mara as she came out of virtually nowhere (Hollywood nowhere, which means she had been in supporting roles, TV show guest spots and horror remakes) only to get an Oscar nomination for her work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Here’s that trailer:
Of course, Tatum has no desire to rest after that busy year. He’s got a number of projects also coming out this year, with G.I. Joe: Retaliation due in March, and White House Down due out for the Fourth of July. Soderbergh has Behind the Candelabra – his HBO movie about Liberace – and then supposedly retirement. Or at least a vacation. And it’s obvious that both deserve one. Side Effects hits theaters February 8.
Who else is a contender for 2012′s star of the year?
