We tend to hate on Hollywood studios because of the movie projects they choose to fund (Transformers 4, anyone?). So much of typical Hollywood product tends to be huge, expensive spectacles with little-to-no story, heavy special effects and poor acting. So, we at ScreenCrave have decided to help jump behind the indie film. Every week we’ll be bring you the Indie Fundraiser Roundup in which we feature projects seen on sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo that need our help. Check out this week’s picks below.

  • Autumn: Susan Barry and Ethan Cadoff are the co-producers of Autumn, a short movie that tells the story of a young girl and her passion for photography. The filmmakers have put together a trailer, which can be viewed at Indiegogo. The clip goes into more detail about the film, showing how the young girl uses photography to cope with her loneliness. Susan and Ethan have already spent more than they could out of their own pockets, and are asking for help to finish the project. Their goal is to get the short out to festivals. Check out their campaign.
  • Two Seats Away: Two Seats Away is a story about the magic of the moment. It tells the story of a 25-year-old New York tourist who meets an older man at a coffee shop. The two bond over coffee, cigarettes and an Italo Calvino book. But their time together is cut short by certain things that come up in their lives. Writer and director Myrsini Aristidou is looking to shoot this short over the course of three days in NYC. She hopes you can help her cover some costs. If you’re into romantic indie tales, check out her campaign at Indiegogo.
  • American Gladiators: Lara Gallagher is the writer and director of American Gladiators, a semi-autobiographical film about two sisters who are powerless in the world and powerless against the future. The film follows young Jean, who is sick and tired of her sister Mae’s sickness. Mae may be ill but she’s a bully and gets everything she wants, leaving Jean with nothing for herself. Despite the filmmaker’s limited budget, she was able to cast two talented young girls. You can check out bits and pieces of their performances, and some footage of the film at Indiegogo.

Pick of the Week:

  • Allergies: Jobey is an 11-year-old boy who has been plagued by severe allergies all of his life. He thinks he’s allergic to girls as well, and this leaves him feeling a little blue, especially after his two best friends share his secret that he’s never been kissed. This short film, titled Allergies, is being directed by Molly Mayo and she needs your help to make this project a reality. Allergies is a highly stylized film. The filmmakers want to give the movie a timeless feel with some accents from the ’70s. They need help covering costume and production design costs. Check out some of their concept art at Indiegogo.

Those are the projects we have for you this week. Be sure to check back every week for our Indie Fundraiser Roundup–helping you help indie cinema.
