The saying goes that your heroes are only as good as your villain, so perhaps this is good news—according to actor Tom Hiddleston, it’s looking less and less likely that Thor and The Avengers villain Loki will be making a return appearance in The Avengers 2. Not to offend The Avengers fans out there, but Loki wasn’t the most terribly interesting part of the superhero team-up flick.
While the character was just fine in Thor, he became a bit of a snooze in The Avengers, skulking around as he did, looking like a pissed off Rooney Mara with horned helmet, a slick mullet, and a big staff. Hiddleston did solid work, but there just wasn’t much for him to do in the film besides glower at things and hurl antiquated epithets at Black Widow.
Here’s what Hiddleston had to say on the subject:
“I don’t know, and that really is the honest answer. I know I’ve been known for obfuscation in other quarters, but I have no idea. … I haven’t spoken to Joss. He’s definitely doing it. So I suspect not, only because I think that probably the audiences are tired of Loki being the bad guy. Maybe the Avengers need somebody else to fight. But I’d love to be part of it again.”
It would make sense for Loki to stay out of things, seeing as how Thanos is all but confirmed to be the film’s Big Bad, and the fact that Loki is already returning for Thor: The Dark World. Seriously, how much more of this guy do you want to see?
What do you think of the Loki news?
