Baz Luhrmann is probably one of the best directors you could ever put in charge for a movie like The Great Gatsby. We’re dealing with a literary classic that’s been translated into every other entertainment medium ever since the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel was published to the masses. To have such an over-the-top visual director such as Luhrmann behind the wheel of this picture sounds magnificent. But will we be singing the same tune when the movie comes out next year? Who knows, but we love what we see from this latest trailer.

While Luhrmann’s style is a sweet fit for The Great Gatsby, we’re not entirely sure it was the wisest choice to be presenting this movie in 3D. From the looks of the latest trailer below, we can see where Luhrmann’s loud colors and direction is just right for 3D, but we’re still talking about an adaptation on one of the most popular American novels out there. Then again there’s already been many film interpretations of The Great Gatsby to begin with, what’s a little 3D going to hurt?

Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby boasts an all-star cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. For those select few who may have never read The Great Gatsby before, it centers on Nick Carraway (Maguire), a Midwesterner who befriends his next door neighbor Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), a rich man who appears to be living the high life. Once he gets closer to the eccentric man and enters his circle of friends, he notices the uncontrollable obsession and madness that lies within him. Now we should be seeing The Great Gatsby in less than a week but now the release date has been pushed from Christmas Day to May 10, 2013.
