We’ll say this for Jamie Foxx—the actor really doesn’t seem to worry that much about major movie spoilers. While the plot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (in which Foxx will star as Spidey villain Electro) isn’t exactly something the whole world is clamoring for, it’s still being kept relatively under wraps by the folks at Sony. Or rather, it was kept under wraps, until Foxx decided to basically lay out the villain’s entire story arc for MTV News.
Obviously, spoilers below:
To hear Foxx tell it, Max Dillon (Electro) has gone through his entire life as a loser who has constantly been used and taken advantage of, until he meets Spider-Man, who treats him with a modicum of respect. At that point, Dillon becomes obsessed with Spider-Man and believes himself to be Spider-Man’s partner. That is, until Dillon’s mom forgets his birthday, which somehow causes Dillon to be involved in a situation in which his body becomes electrically charged.
So it’s yet another Spidey villain who’s not entirely bad, but instead is transformed by science into a monster? Good thing we’ve never seen that before in the Spider-Man films. Except for the Green Goblin. And Doc Ock. And Sandman. And Harry Osborn. And the Lizard.
Here’s what Foxx had to say:
“You’ll see that in his whole life, no one is talking to him. People have stolen his ideas at the big company. He’s a nobody…At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy. You’re my eyes and ears on the street. And he says his name — no one has ever said [Max] Dillon’s name…He sort of starts thinking that somehow, he’s Spider-Man’s partner.”
Oh, and Electro’s getting some new threads, too, so don’t expect the classic green and yellow lightning bolt suit from the comics.
“It won’t be like that…Marc Webb and all of those guys, they’re smart. They know that it has to make sense in 2013, so the suit is really slick. It’s actually black. It’s a new age.”
What do you think of the Electro news?
