Yesterday we got our first glimpse of the third film in the Hobbit trilogy, which a lot of us found to be a little bit odd. We rather would’ve received a sneak peek at the second movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, than that. Well, our cries of confusion can now be put to rest as the first official image from the second film is now available.
If you’ve read The Hobbit, then the surroundings that Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) finds himself in should look very familiar to you. We know that this’ll be the major scene that is a reunion of sorts between Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch, two actors who have shared screen time before in the BBC television series Sherlock. What we’re the most curious about is to see the overall visual style of Smaug, a terrifyingly large dragon who sleeps atop a treasure trove in the Lonely Mountain.
What we’re the most curious about is how they plan to stretch out the story since the sequel mainly has to do with their big confrontation against Smaug, the main villain in The Hobbit. There are already fans protesting that there’s no need for a third movie. We just hope that Peter Jackson and company have a great story idea, enough to have the audience flood back into theaters a third time in 2014. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released in theaters on December 13, 2013.
Will you be seeing the first installation of The Hobbit on opening day?
