You’ve got to hand it to the Star Trek Into Darkness marketing department—the more we learn about the upcoming second film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, somehow the less we know and more confused we become. Today is no different—we now have the official plot synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness from Paramount Pictures. And with that plot synopsis comes way more questions than answers.
Essentially, the film finds the crew of the Enterprise on a “manhunt” to a “war-zone world” in order to capture a “one man weapon of mass destruction,” and that this manhunt will force Captain Kirk to sacrifice members of his crew. Sound interesting? Sure it does. Does it have any real details? Not really:
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
So a terrorist attacks Starfleet, and Captain Kirk and company track him down to a warring planet and some good guys die during the hunt, right? OK. And we now have more details on the Big Bad—he’s “an unstoppable force of terror.” But still not confirmation if it’s Khan, as just about every Trek nerd is hoping for and/or dreading at the same time.
So, once again, it looks like we’ll have to wait until May 17, 2013, until we know what the hell is happening with his film.
What do you think of the Star Trek news?
