In new sure to make fanboys and fangirls positively squeal with excitement, The Hollywood Reporter has it that Lawrence Kasdan (you know, the guy who happened to write the scripts for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, no big deal) has struck a deal with Disney to write one of the upcoming Stars Wars sequels. Ok, nerds, begin thy squealing.
Along with this comes the news that Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper) has also been signed to script one of the sequels as well, though it is not yet known which of the last two films in the new trilogy the writers will individually tackle (Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt will be writing the first entry in the new trilogy).
While the return of Kasdan to the Star Wars universe is exciting, keep in mind that since his early classics, Kasdan wrote such yuppie pap as The Big Chill, such cinema cheese as The Bodyguard, and wrote, produced, and directed the adaptation of Stephen King’s Dreamcatcher, which is quite possibly the worst modern film you will ever, ever see. So take this news with a Millennium Falcon-sized grain of salt.
What do you think of the Star Wars news?
