You’ve got to give the folks behind the upcoming Evil Dead remake one thing—they’re certainly an audacious bunch. Not only is this a remake of one of the best and boldest cult films, well, ever, the film’s marketing campaign is also full of audacity. First, there was the bloody and tree rape-y red-band trailer; today, it’s a boastful poster that makes a promise almost totally impossible to live up to.
That promise? That the remake of The Evil Dead will be “the most terrifying film you will ever experience.” Uh huh.
Not to sound like a cynic (but I am, and will), odds are the remake isn’t exactly going to revolutionize horror filmmaking or outpace the original. It’s simply the same old movie, but with cuter actors and better special effects.
That said, it’s an evocative poster, and is all the more creepy because it shows the aftermath of the story’s horror—a single, battered survivor walking and bleeding down a road—rather than the spatter-y horror itself (the trailer already took care of that part, anyway).
Still, “the most terrifying film you will ever experience”? Probably not. But hey, it at least looks better than Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes, so that’s something.
The Evil Dead is set for an April 12, 2013 release.
What do you think of the poster?
