When news broke that Kristen Stewart had an affair with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, it put a number of things in question, but most important to Universal was the fate of the sequel they were already in the process of developing. Though word was spun about having a Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth)-centric sequel, it looks like now the sequel will star Stewart but get a new director.

This comes from Radar online, so it could be just hot air, but it makes sense that Stewart – who’s just coming off the Twilight franchise – would be the bigger priority for Universal than Sanders. And as Universal is developing their reboot of Van Helsing, and have talked about Sanders being at the helm of it, it looks like they’re trying to everyone at least somewhat happy.

The nice thing about the Snow White sequel is that they don’t have the fairy tale to fall back on, so they can go anywhere they want with it. The first film felt like it was struck between trying to do its own thing while also doing all the beats of the original fairy tale. Now there’s just two characters that can go on magical adventures, and that could be interesting. At least, more interesting than Snow White and the Huntsman.
