Despite the fact that the Twilight film franchise is finally coming to an end—at least until the inevitable reboot or spin-off—it appears our long nightmare is still not yet over. That’s right: there are still other, even more terrible Stephanie Meyer books to be adapted into plodding, quasi-feminist yet completely sexist films about people woodenly falling in love amongst monsters or aliens or whichever genre beasts Meyer clumsily tries to use as metaphors for relationship angst. Case in point, Meyer’s The Host, a book about love blossoming amidst an alien invasion and some world-class wooden acting. Dig the new trailer.
The Host takes place in a future in which most of humanity is controlled by parasitic aliens that make our eyes super-blue. In that future, a guy with goofy hair falls for a bland brunette so blank that an entire generation of teen girls can easily attach their egos to her (sound familiar?). Oh, and then she gets infected, her eyes go blue, and now her human side must do battle with her alien parasite in order to help the human resistance, and blah blah blah. Check it out:
The Host is set for a March 29, 2013 release. Pray it does not become a franchise.
