We’ve already seen one trailer for The Canyons—the Kickstarter-funded barebones production directed by Paul Schrader (writer of Taxi Driver, The Last Temptation of Christ, and more), written by Bret Easton Ellis (author of American Psycho and Less Than Zero), and starring Lindsay Lohan with a porn star, James Deen—and it was a clever grindhouse knock-off that told very little in terms of what the film was about.  Rather than show much of the plot, or any discernable acting talent from Deen or Lohan, it basically tried to be a clever grindhouse-y trailer.  Now, a new trailer has arrived, this time in the style of a 1950s dramatic potboiler.  Translation?  The film is not very good, so rather than show any content, the filmmakers are trying to distract with clever ad gags.

Watching the new trailer, what little you see in the way of actual plot or acting makes the film appear to be amateurishly performed at best, with just about all of the talent being behind the camera rather than in front of it.  Seriously—some of these line readings are enough to make one shudder, were they not so funny:

So there you have it.  A film so bad, the marketing strategy has been altered to “let’s make it look like we were trying to make a bad grindhouse movie all along!”  Who would have thought Lindsay Lohan and a guy whose previous experience was porn-level acting couldn’t carry a picture?

What do you think of the trailer?
