Louis C.K. is going to shame his kids and embrace masturbation on HBO, again. The comedian’s comedian has agreed to give the network his next stand-up special, which will air sometime in 2013.
Louis C.K. and HBO have had a good relationship. Even though his hit show Louie airs on FX, HBO has televised a number of the comedian’s specials including 1997′s Comedy Half-Hour, 2005′s One Night Stand: Louis C.K., and most recently 2007′s Shameless. He also created and starred in HBO’s 2006 series Lucky Louie, though the network cancelled it after only one season.
HBO president Michael Lombardo is thrilled to have C.K. back, and said:
“This comic genius remains one of the freshest voices on the scene, and HBO is proud to provide an uncensored forum for his provocative humor.”
The comedy special will be taped during one of the remaining stops of Louis C.K.’s current sold-out tour. And this should come as a surprise to no one – he will also be directing the special, and will executive produce with Dave Becky and Blair Breard.
So, for those of you who have been bummed about C.K.’s announcement that Louie is going on an extended hiatus, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The show might not return until the spring of 2014, but we have something from the man coming next year.
C.K. also announced, via Twitter, that the standup special will be available on his website louisck.com a few months after it airs for a mere $5. Not only does C.K. like to give us the gift of laughter, but he wants to make his specials affordable to his fans. Last December, the comedian released Live at the Beacon Theater independently, and only charged five bucks for it on his site, eliminating costly and unnecessary fees from sites like Ticketmaster. It worked because the sales of the special earned him over a million dollars. And he didn’t have to share his profits with an evil middleman.
Here’s Louis during his 2007 HBO special talking about “making an exception” for Ewan McGregor. Check it out:
