Sylvester Stallone wants as much man power as he can get his hands on for his upcoming Expendables movie. Sly just announced that Nicolas Cage will lend his “veneer intellectual” to The Expendables 3.
Stallone is thrilled about casting Cage, but is still eager on adding more surly, hunky men to his sequel. His producers are currently trying to convince Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes to sign on for the sequel, and trying to get Mickey Rourke to come back.
Stallone confirmed Cage’s casting during a conversation with El Pais. Here’s what he said:
We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing ‘The Expendables’. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.
Right before the release of The Expendables 2, producer Avi Lerner mentioned to that they’ve also approached Clint Eastwood. The actor-turned-director told Extra (via JoBlo) that he probably wouldn’t join the cast, but did mention that he was more “apt to direct” Expendables 3 (though that’s very hard to believe). Lerner also mentioned that Cage was set for the role, but that wasn’t official until this week. There’s no word on who Cage will play, but various sources are speculating that he’s likely to play some type of eccentric villain. Sure, why not?
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Expendables 3?
