Steven Soderbergh has talked about retirement, but that should come as no surprise. Since September of last year he’s had three movies in the theaters and in February he’ll have another, on top of which he’s also working on his Liberace bio-pic. That’s a lot of filmmaking, so the man probably does need to take a rest. His latest film is called Side Effects, and we just got the trailer.
This thriller has a couple (Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum) who are having issues until she gets on a new medication. Her doctor is played by Jude Law, and like any miracle cure, things happen that aren’t the intended result. Which would be like some sort of additional thing, a side thing. Hence the title. Of course here the implication is that someone was murdered. Catherine Zeta-Jones also stars. Check it out:
This looks good, but Soderbergh is one of the most talented filmmakers working today, and over the last year and change has delivered two of its best movies (Contagion, Magic Mike), and this looks like another interesting film from him. He’s also reunited with Scott Z. Burns, who wrote Contagion, and The Informant. Side Effects is due out February 8, which makes it a strange film to watch for Valentine’s day.
