G.I. Joe: Retaliation was originally set to hit theaters this past summer, where it was on track to be one of the mega-blockbusters of 2012. Instead, Paramount pulled the film just one month before release—after already shelling out a ton on the film’s advertising campaign—to convert the film to 3D (translation: the film is terrible and would no way have stayed afloat in between The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises). Well, now the film is back on track for a March 29, 2013 release, and we’ve got a new international trailer. Check it out.
Curiously, the as Cinema Blend notes, the new trailer makes absolutely no mention of the fact that G.I. Joe: Retaliation is now a 3D film—meaning that the entire reason Paramount gave for pulling the film, reason for the all new marketing campaign, is not being marketed at all. Which is kind of strange. Instead, we get a trailer that’s pretty similar to the last two trailers for the film—everyone has unnaturally orange skin, a lot of things explode, and Bruce Willis just kind of shrugs his way through yet another sleepwalking paycheck performance. Watch it:
So there you have: an ad for a 3D action film that makes zero mention of its 3D action. This should go well.
What do you think of the trailer?
