And that, folks, is most awesomely random headline you’re likely to read today (unless President Obama, Taylor Swift, and Christopher Lloyd team up with their army of colossal biomechanical Zords to defeat Hurricane Sandy—that…that would be pretty random, too, I suppose). Yes, Joss Whedon, creator of small screen wonders like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, and director of The Avengers, supports Mitt Romney as the presidential candidate most likely to accidentally create a zombie apocalypse in a new ad. It’s good for a laugh, or 50.
In what may be the funniest thing to emerge from the 2012 election cycle (after Paul Ryan’s workout pics, Joe Biden’s hair, and Romney’s binder full of women), Whedon has recorded a folksy video in which he encourages those wishing for a zombie apocalypse to vote for Mitt Romney, as the Republican candidate’s “commitment to ungoverned corporate privilege…will nosedive this economy into true insolvency and chaos.” And from that chaos, of course, will come walking (or possibly running) hoards of the ravenous undead:
“Romney is ready to make the deep rollbacks—in health care, education, social services, reproductive rights—that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, disease, rioting. All crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland.”
So if this doesn’t essentially make Joss Whedon the unofficial king of the internet (he’s already got the nerd culture down), nothing will.
