While the current superhero movie news cycle is being overtaken with all things Iron Man 3, a rumor concerning the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Winter Soldier, is quietly making the rounds. It involves a primary villain for the film, and who might play him.
Frank Grillo, who you may recall from season one of Prison Break or The Grey, is currently rumored to be under consideration for the role of Brock Rumlow in Captain America: Winter Solider. Within the Marvel universe, Rumlow is known as Crossbones, “a highly trained mercenary working for the Red Skull,” according to Coming Soon. The character first emerged in the 1980s, and later took part in the assassination of Captain America in the semi-recent Civil War storyline. So, yeah, he’s a baddie.
Grillo let it slip by Tweeting that he was visiting Los Angeles for a meeting with Marvel, and added the hashtag #captainamerica. The Tweets were then deleted, and The Matthew Aaron Show began Tweeting that Grillo had indeed auditioned for Crossbow and is “very close to getting the part.”
Guess we’ll have to wait until April 4, 2014, when Captain America: Winter Solider is released, before we’ll know for sure.
