Well, it’s time for another of our near-daily “hey, here’s something else Marvel Studios is doing that will make about half a billion dollars” new updates, this time, with plot summaries!    That’s right, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World have been given official plot synopses by Marvel.   I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that Tony Stark is going to face a problem that will force his arrogant and glib self to reevaluate the situation and force him to behave selflessly while at the same time learning a life lesson; meanwhile, Thor will hit a bunch of British-accented CGI things with a hammer while moving through a plot that half-exists solely to establish The Avengers 2.  Let’s see.

After the great Iron Man and the just terrible Iron Man 2, the cleverly-titled Iron Man 3 “pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds” (pssst: it’s the Mandarin):

When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

And, apparently, that voyage of self discovery includes launching a small army of Iron Men at your big bad.  Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3, 2013 release.

Next up is Thor: The Dark World, the follow-up to Thor.  In this entry, the Mighty Avenger will fight to save the Earth as well as the Nine Realms “from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself”:

In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.  Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Translation: there will be beards, capes, swords, a hammer, British accents, and lots of things going boom-boom, which is always fun.  Thor: The Dark World will hit theaters on November 8, 2013.
