Providing a stark contrast to the Academy Awards selecting Seth MacFarlane as their 2013 host, the Golden Globes actually got someone funny to host. Two funny people, in fact—Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, two of the funniest people on TV, with two of the funniest television programs on the air (Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock, respectively).
Fey and Poehler already have a great comedic rapport, having previously co-starred together in Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, and Baby Mama. Oh, and they’re each far funnier/ more creative than Seth MacFarlane, so that, you know, helps.
Fey and Poehler also have a lot to live up to, following Ricky Gervais’ multi-year Golden Globes hosting stints, as the comedian often made waves for brutally mocking the stars in attendance. As /Film notes, while neither comedienne has hosted before, both have presented during programs like the Emmys. It’s further noted that the NBC may be the biggest winner here, as the network will air the Globes, and having Fey and Poehler host is basically a three-hour commercial for two of the best sitcoms on NBC.
The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on January 13, 2013.
