Thus far, Aaron Paul has had a successful small-screen career thanks to his memorable role as Jesse Pinkman in AMC’s Breaking Bad. But now that the show is ending, Paul seems to be keen on making his transition unto the big silver screen. The actor, who can currently be seen co-starring in Smashed, has landed the lead role in DreamWorks’ Need For Speed.
According to EW, Need For Speed is inspired by the racing video games published by Electronic Arts. Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) will direct from a script by George Gatins (executive producer for She’s Out Of My League). John Gatins (scribe for Real Steel and the upcoming Flight) is set to produce, along with EA’s Patrick O’Brien and Mark Sourian.
Details for the plot are vague. The story is not based on any single one of the games, but merely just inspired by the title. Based on that, Need For Speed will probably feature tons of cars and action – maybe something similar to The Fast and the Furious franchise.
It’s not hard to imagine Paul starring in this type of movie. He’s a badass on TV and now he’s going to be one in movies. And he does sort of reminds us of a younger Giovanni Ribisi. With that said, we hope Need For Speed gives Paul the chance to act and not just race around looking like a tool. He deserves better than that.
