Well, now Clint Eastwood has something else he can eerily rant about to that empty chair he partnered up with at the Republican National Convention– Beyoncé Knowles, who has been attached to Eastwood’s long-gestating remake of A Star is Born for two years, has finally dropped out of the project, making her the latest in a long line of actors who have been attached to, and then bailed on, the project.
Yes, thanks to the long development of the remake, Knowles is simply the latest in a long of hotshot actors who have cut themselves loose from the project (though the singer has been the longest running mainstay for the remake, as she was attached to the project even before Eastwood signed on). Previously, /Film has it that Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, and Gerard Butler had all been attached to play the male lead at various points throughout the remake’s development.
So far, Warner Bros. has not released a statement on Knowles’ exit, but Variety reports that Knowles’ increasingly busy schedule, coupled with the lack of development or even a start date for the film, have contributed to the singer’s bailout. Rumor has it that Eastwood is now looking at jazz musician Esperanza Spalding as a potential replacement for Knowles.
