Let’s face it, when we sit through the entire credit roll at the movie theater, we’re hoping something will pop up after. But unless it’s The Avengers or some other comic-book movie, that’s unlikely to happen. But we have some news for anyone going to see Paranormal Activity 4 on October 19th. You’re going to want to stay for the credits because Paramount will be revealing a sneak peek of their next film, a Latino-themed spin-off of the horror series.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Christopher Landon (Disturbia) will write and direct the Latino-centered project, which is being described as a “cousin” to the Paranormal Activity movies. It’s not a sequel or reboot. It’s a spin-off, which will most likely follow the mythology of Paranormal, but have new characters and tell a different kind of story. That spin-off will star a Latino cast and deal with Catholic-based paranormal mythology. The film will still, however, be in English.
This horror series has proven itself quite the cash cow for Paramount, so there’s no saying where it’ll go after this. The spin-off could potentially be ready for an early 2013 release.
With that said, it’s smart for Paramount to take the Latino route since it’s a community that is an important part of the U.S. population that goes to movie theaters. Recently The Hollywood Reporter published a story on the importance of the Latino market. They found that Latinos make up for only 16% of the U.S. market, but they buy 25% of movie tickets. If the movie includes a Latino star or deals with some type of Catholic-type horror, they are more inclined to make that trip to the theater.
Clearly Paramount is getting these reports.
