Yesterday we saw the teaser poster, but today we’ve got the full teaser trailer.  That’s right—our first full look at Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.   And after all the running over budget, the stories of an runaway train of a production, what do we get?  Basically, what we expected: a very slick and polished bit of mainstream action movie-ness, draped in some vaguely American west iconography.  Lots of gunplay, some big boom-booms, a bevy of melodramatic slo-mo action shots, and Johnny Depp doing his Native American-by-way-of Marilyn Manson thing.  Hey, at least there are no giant mechanical spiders or Will Smith cameos.  So that’s something.

Following yesterday’s rough-edged poster, the trailer isn’t anywhere near as gritty as we expected it to be, but hey—it’s a Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney production of a Gore Verbinski film rebooting an old TV show and starring one of the biggest movie stars in the world.  If you want dark and gritty action, look elsewhere; this is mainstream Hollywood-by-numbers filmmaking.

But hey, like I said: not a single giant mechanical spider in sight.

The Lone Ranger is set for a July 3, 2013 release date, so we have several more months of nitpicking and predicting whether it will ever be possible for this thing to recoup its budget.

What do you think of the trailer?
