In what is sure to become one of the most bugnuts crazy films, well, ever, Richard Kelly (the man behind the colossal mind-twister Donnie Darko) is set to direct cinematic lunatic Nicolas Cage in a legal thriller in which a man hires a hitman to murder his entire family (including his quadriplegic son). So, yes, this will likely be the most insane thing you ever see, assuming Cage brings his subtle brand of nuanced acting and Kelly drops a jet engine in the middle of the family’s house.
The film is called Amicus, and, according to Variety (by way of Cinema Blend), it is a true crime thriller. Amicus is the story of music industry exec Lawrence Horn, a man who hired a hitman to execute “his wife, quadriplegic son and the wealthy family’s overnight nurse at their suburban home in Silver Spring, Maryland.” Yeesh. Apparently, Horn was motivated to knock off the whole family as his son had won a $2 million settlement due to a medical malpractice case, and Horn couldn’t get his hands on the money until his son died. So, yeah, this should be a romp for the whole family to enjoy.
But hang on, it gets better. The hitman, James Perry, had to read a how-to book called Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors in order to learn how to knock off the victims. And, after the families of the victims learned this, they sued the book’s publishing house and hired attorney Rodney Smolla. Cage will be portraying Smolla in the film.
While no release date for the film has been announced, one thing is for certain: yes, this will be the most insane film you ever see.
