This is the film’s opening salvo to the world, and it’s strange we’re getting a clip before the trailer for the film, which is set to open Christmas Day. The film is directed by Anne Fletcher (best known as a choreographer, but also helmed the first Step Up), and written by Dan Fogelman, who also wrote Crazy, Stupid, Love. This probably means we’re about to get hit with a bunch more marketing in the near future, and likely a poster that follows the Judd Apatow style, even if Mr. Apatow had nothing to do with the movie. In fact, the movie was produced by Saturday Night Live‘s Lorne Michaels. Perhaps because of that it’s got a couple of SNL vets (including Nora Dunn and Casey Wilson), alongside Adam Scott, Colin Hanks, Danny Pudi, and Creed Bratton.
But, in lieu of a trailer, it must be said that this gets across the central conflict of the movie. A “Concerned” mom stuck with her son over the course of eight days in a car. This sounds like (at least on paper) like a better version of Due Date, which was a lesser version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. We’ll know for sure December 25.
Do you think there will be life lessons?
