Things just seem to be getting worse and worse with the upcoming RoboCop reboot.  After news broke of a hilariously bad script, casting negotiation breakdowns, and a production out of the director’s control, pictures have leaked of the new RoboCop suit.  And, instead of actually looking like a robot’s body with a face attached to it (like in the excellent original), now it just looks like a stuntman threw on Christopher Nolan’s batsuit and stuck Judge Dredd’s helmet on top.  Translation: it’s boring, sucks, and doesn’t appear to be anything but a rubber suit.

Now, a caveat: it’s entirely possible that with postproduction this suit will be modified with CGI, but, as it stands for now, the suit looks, well terrible.  There’s no sense that you’re looking at anything but a stuntguy in a molded suit.

Maybe we can hope that this is some kind prototype design for the character, and that it will become fleshed out (in a sense) and will evolve as the film goes on.  We can hope, anyway.

The RoboCop reboot is set for an August 9, 2013 release.  Directed by Jose Padilha, the film stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, and Abbie Cornish.

What do you think of the suit?
