Despite the fact that it’s 2012 and May-December romances aren’t exactly the most shocking couplings occurring between human beings anymore, the red-band trailer for Julian Farino’s The Oranges makes it out to be the most shocking and destabilizing thing to happen to the American family unit since, well, ever. Or maybe it’s just weird to see Hugh Laurie sleep with Leighton Meester behind his wife’s back (wasn’t there an episode of House where she played his jailbait temptation? Weird). Anyway, here’s the sorta-kinda NSFW trailer (a handful of naughty words) for The Oranges, which posits that married life is absolute hell.
The trailer seems to play as if The Oranges is a slightly edgier take on the Something’s Gotta Give and It’s Complicated type of films that your parents love so much—basically, the white upper-middle class malaise of the middle-aged is squeezed for a couple of yuks. Still, the script for The Oranges was on the Black List a few years ago, so there’s still hope. Dig the trailer:
It’s nice to see Laurie doing some post-House work, even if it doesn’t look particularly interesting. Still, fingers crossed the film works better than the trailer. The Oranges is set for a limited theatrical release on October 5.
