After three Iron Man Movies, and a small role in The Avengers, it looks like Gwyneth Paltrow is feeling done with superhero movies. So much so that she trotted out one of the most famous lines from Lethal Weapon.
When asked about The Avengers 2, Paltrow told E! Online that she doesn’t know, adding: “I’m getting old for this s–t, you know what I mean?” Though it’s likely that Paltrow had to sign a three film (or more) contract with Marvel when first appearing in Iron Man, it’s likely that after four movies that she’s fulfilled that contract, and has been paid well. It’s also possible that they pull a Gwen Stacy on her in Iron Man 3.It’s also worth noting, for whatever it’s worth, that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black wrote the script to Lethal Weapon, so perhaps she was paying homage to her director.
As we’ve seen with the recent Spider-Man movie, and in the Batman franchise (which swapped Maggie Gyllenhaal for Katie Holmes), swapping out actors is no longer a big deal for fans, especially when it comes to supporting players. At this point Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, but – for the most part – everyone else is replaceable. Just ask Eric Bana. Or Edward Norton.
