The excitement is already building for Star Trek 2, despite the fact it might not be boldly making its way back into cinemas for the best part of another year; now Zachary Quinto been bragging that the filmmaking team is “bigging it up” in a recent interview. His comments come on the heels of star Chris Pine, who was also recently bragging about how the film is bigger and better than the original.  Curious?  Sure you are.  Read on for more.

Here’s what Quinto recently told TheWrap (reported via TotalFilm):

“It was bigger. It was bolder, I think, than the first one, and that was pretty big and bold from my stand point. I’m really excited to see what they do with it.”

Quinto couldn’t reveal too much, though, since the plot still remains a closely guarded secret. What the Enterprise crew could be facing this time around is still anybody’s guess. Still, Quinto went on to praise J.J. Abrams and co.

“I feel like, you know, my work is done on the movie right now, and until we have to go and promote it, then my work remains done and I let J.J. and his incredible team of people get in there and do the work that they need to do now.”

Quinto also mentions how he has been turning over new ideas for various behind the camera projects, having recently served as producer on financial thriller Margin Call.

“I’m just happy to be working on something else, and be creatively fulfilled in other ways and be producing movies and be thinking about how I can, you know, get behind the camera in different ways and tell my own stories.”

As we noted above, Quinto’s interview follows Chris Pine’s recent ravings and leaked details about the sequel, which we reported on Tuesday, including the mention of “relentless action” and a threat even greater than before for the crew of the Enterprise. Excited yet?  Still guessing who the villain is?

Star Trek 2 opens in theaters on May 17 2013.
