There is an entire genre of films dedicated to the premise of “nerdy high school virgin must get laid before prom/graduation/college,” ranging from the very, very, very bad to usually just sort of bad, in terms of quality.  They almost always involve an unpopular boy or boys who, through a series of wacky misadventures, learns that sex isn’t everything/ sleeps with the prom queen/ sleeps with the female nerd who’s secretly cool/ all of the above.  The new Aubrey Plaza-starring The To Do List changes that premise up a bit—this time, the nerd is a girl (GASP!).

Written by Maggie Carey of Funny or Die fame, The To Do List is the story of Brandy Klark, an overachieving nerd who, in preparation for her upcoming freshman year of college elects to systematically knock out all the sexual acts she’s yet to accomplish (re: all of them).  Thus, her ‘to-do” list: a bullet-pointed journey into the world of kinky sex acts.

It’s not exactly the most original idea in the world, but the gender reversal (and casting of the excellent Plaza), as well as the solid support cast—Alia Shawkat, Donald Glover, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Rachel Bilson, and Christopher  Mintz-Plasse—make The To Do List look pretty interesting.  And, oh hey look, it’s a Not Safe For Work teaser featuring Plaza, the list, and an awkward, American Pie-ish flailing attempt at oral sex:

The To Do List hits theaters on February 14, 2013.

What do you think of the teaser?
