Fanboys rejoice: we’ve learned that actress Kat Dennings will take time out from her busy schedule of anchoring the terribly, terribly unfunny CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls in order to return to the Thor sequel in an expanded role.
Previously, Dennings had been one of the few remaining cast members from the original film whose status in Thor: The Dark World remained unconfirmed. But now, it has been announced that Dennings will return for Thor: The Dark World in a “slightly expanded” capacity.
In the original Thor, Dennings played the quirky research assistant to Natalie Portman’s scientist, a modified version of the “quirky best friend” hell that Hollywood cruelly relegates all non-leading ladies into. So know we can look forward to her deadpan quips and quirky best friend-ishness for an addition 10 or 15 space-filling minutes in Thor: The Dark World.
This comes on the heels of the news that Christopher Eccleston would be stepping in as the film’s Big Bad. Thor: The Dark World also stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins,Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgardand and Ray Stevenson, and will be directed by Alan Taylor. The film is set for November 8, 2013.
