The next time you’re stuck in line at the grocery store this week, let your eyes slide past the magazine rack’s newest tabloid headlines and celebrity fetishism and you’ll see one of four new The Walking Dead-related covers for Entertainment Weekly.
Featured on the new covers are Rick, new Big Bad the Governor, fan favorite Michonne (with her two armless zombie slaves in tow), and, yes, that would be Merle, the goofy hick from Season One who was handcuffed and left to die by our heroes, and who cut off his how hand to escape (we previously reported that he’d be returning).
The Walking Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman let some details loose about the new season in the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly, concerning the clash between the main cast and the survivors led by the Governor:
“This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide…And you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything.”
So…it’s basically the last two seasons over again: the main cast comes to a new area, employs a different philosophical stance from the other people already living there, some people die, the end.
Kirkman also leaked details on a new character named Milton:
“Milton is the details guy…He’s the guy that works with the Governor, who is monitoring all situations and is trying to help the Governor make sense of this world that they’re living in. He’s not exactly a scientist, but he’s a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun.”
The Walking Dead’s third season premieres on October 14th on AMC.
