The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been throwing out casting announcements big and small, but the one fans were really waiting for concerned who going to play Finnick Odair. The wait is over: it’s some guy.
That guy is Sam Claflin, who some of you might remember from this summer’s Snow White and the Huntsman, or from last year’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The English actor started in television, and hasn’t built up a great resume so far (even with these high profile films), so this could be the big breakout role he needs. Currently our estimation of him is that he’s handsome (one could even say hunky) and totally boring as an actor.
The character of Finnick is important because he’s part of the building revolution, and a previous survivor of The Hunger Games. He was fourteen at the time, and he’s brought back to take part in the Quarter Quell, which is the all-star game version of The Hunger Games. He’ll be joining Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Donald Sutherland for the film, which is being directed by Francis Lawrence and will start shooting in a couple of weeks. The film is scheduled to come out on November 22, 2013.
