Senn Penn is following up his last directorial effort, the biopic Into the Wild, by helming another drama inspired by a true story of man versus nature – though this one has a happier ending… and hopefully Josh Brolin. Read on for more.
Crazy for the Storm will tell the story of Norman Ollestad, who survived a plane crash that left him stranded and alone on atop 8,600-foot San Gabriel Mountains in a blizzard at the tender age of 11.
According to CinemaBlend, the film is to be based on the memoir of the same name, where Ollestad credits his survival of this horrific occurrence to his father, a former FBI agent who had urged his son into sports and nature, helping Ollestad to develop the survival skills he needed to make it down the treacherous mountainside.
So far there’s no word on who will play Norman Ollestad…but it seems like the casting is off to a good start with Penn’s Milk co-star Josh Brolin is in talks to play Ollestad’s father, who dies in the horrid plane crash along with two others. Brolin seems a great choice, so hopefully Warner Bros will seal the deal with the No Country For Old Men star fairly soon.
Penn actually wrote Into the Wild‘s screenplay himself, but Crazy for the Storm has been adapted by screenwriter Will Fetters, who previously translated the Nicholas Sparks romance novel The Lucky One into a PG-13 drama.
While we’re waiting for more news on that, audiences will be able to see Penn and Brolin on-screen again in Ruben Fleischer‘s upcoming crime drama Gangster Squad, which opens January 11 next year. And like Milk, the film will have Penn and Brolin facing off, the former as smirking Mafioso Cohen, the latter as crusading copper John O’Mara.
